Need a last-minute trip idea for Valentine’s day? You don’t have to spring for a rushed red-eye flight to Hawaii or Paris! If you’re a Texas native like us, there are plenty of romantic getaways right around the corner—if you know where to look. Whether you prefer a sleek urban night out, an intimate weekend in the hill country, or an up-close and personal tour of quirky historic locations, these travel options will sweep your loved one off their feet while staying close to home.

Here’s our favorite romantic getaways in Texas:

Marble Falls

For Austin folks like us, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that Marble Falls is just a 45-minute drive away, and truly boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the area. From boating to camping to fishing, there’s no end to the outdoor fun, as the city is close to five beautiful lakes and rolling hills.

Alpine

For the nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, try out Alpine, Texas. Nestled in the desert, this small town’s views are incredible, and it’s right next to Big Bend National Park so you can get out and explore the wilderness. If you prefer a night in to one in the great outdoors, the local ins boast welcoming hospitality, wonderful food, and local flavor.

Fredericksburg

Take your time at a getaway cabin and enjoy outdoor bonfires, intricate indoor stonework, and enjoy a hearty homemade apple pie. The Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market close by features a staggering amount of pies, jams, and other fresh-baked goodies. Come back during the summer and fall, and you can tour the orchards and pick your own apples and peaches.

Bastrop

Planning a weekend getaway? Stay overnight at one of the several adorable bed and breakfasts available and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the historic downtown area the next day. For a touch of class, make a reservation at the Bastrop Opera House on Saturday evening, or enjoy a night of dinner theater.

Wimberley

From professional cooking classes to a relaxing afternoon at one of the state’s finest wineries, a trip to Wimberley, Texas will have you de-stressed in no time. Fabulous BBQ and southern food round out the small-town charm.

Port Isabel

As the only town square in Texas that can boast a lighthouse, if you’re looking for a little maritime romance, or just good fishing opportunities, this South Texas spot is the place to be. While you’re there, catch up on the city’s rich history at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum.

Canyon

If you find yourself in the Panhandle, look for this hidden gem. A historic downtown square, the internationally-acclaimed outdoor music drama “TEXAS”, and Palo Duro Canyon State park mean that this little town has a little something for everyone and is sure to please.
