While the history of St. Patrick’s Day has its roots in early 17th century Ireland, that hasn’t stopped thousands of Americans across the country from celebrating the holiday with exuberance for years. From great food to green beer to fun family activities,
Here are our seven favorite ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Texas:
St. Patrick’s Day 2018 – Austin
If you call central Texas home, the Celtic Cultural Center of Texas’ annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival may be the way to go. This authentic festival includes only the most traditional fierce Irish celebrations. You won’t find any green food coloring in the beer here. This festival boasts everything from traditional dancing to face painting to an Irish language workshop. Learn more on their website here.
The Dubliner – Dallas
Maybe you’re a more traditional sort, and the idea of a festival or parade just rubs you the wrong way. Then you’ll want to head on down to The Dubliner in Dallas, Texas, a cozy live music hall where you can catch traditional Irish music and good beer. It’s as simple as that.
Shamrock St. Patrick’s Day Festival
Where better to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day than in Shamrock, Texas? This Texas town has hosted a St. Patrick’s Day festival every year since 1983, and they don’t look to be stopping anytime soon. The 83rd Texas House Legislature even designated this festival the “…official St. Patrick’s Day Celebration for the State of Texas.”
Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This “Largest St. Patrick’s Parade in the Southwest” features over 90 floats and a two-mile parade route. If you’re in north Texas, make sure to make your way out to Dallas to catch one of the many epic leprechaun or Irish warriors floats. And since you’ll be in Cowtown country, there’ll be lots of folks on horseback, and maybe just a few in traditional Irish garb.
Murphy’s Street St. Patrick’s Day River Parade Festival
This epic Irish celebration in San Antonio uses the city’s River Walk to great advantage! The San Antonio River Walk Association and the Harp & Shamrock Society of Texas have partnered for years to dye the river green in honor of the River Shannon and host a river parade of stunning floats. This one is a must-see!
BD Riley’s Irish Pub – Austin
Go for the authentic Irish experience in Austin, Texas with a classic pub. An evening here will feature live music, quality Irish beers, and Irish dancers. Rumor has it that there may even be live bagpipes and rugby on TV to round out the celebration.
Or…. Host Your Own!
If you’ve got little ones or just don’t want to deal with the travel or the traffic, host your own St. Patrick’s Day party. With a good corned beef or Shepherd’s Pie, a little traditional beer, and a few shamrocks on the dining room table, you can host an authentic St. Patrick’s Day party without ever having to hunt down a stray sheep or square up to fight the English!
